From May 7, 2017 through January 21, 2018 the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University will host Thomas Kegler: Painting Niagara.

Harkening back to the Hudson River School of painting, artist and educator Thomas Kegler will lend his Niagara, Psalms 84:11, an eight foot panoramic painting of the Horseshoe Falls of Niagara. The quiet and contemplative works in this exhibition include 15 plein air paintings and related studies as well as works from the Castellani Art Museum collection.

Excerpts from the most comprehensive instructional documentary video ever made on the landscape painting techniques of “indirect painting” used by the old masters will also be included in the exhibition. This ground-breaking film presents the creation of Niagara, Psalms 84:11 over a period of two years.

Over 40 drawings and paintings laid the groundwork in preparation for this expansive work.   Niagara, Psalms 84:11 endeavors to share the beauty of one of the world’s great natural wonders while evoking awareness and concern for the fragility of our natural environment.

A presentation by Kegler, Buffalo/Niagara Riverkeepers and the WNY Land Conservancy is being planned for fall 2017.

Reception is May 7th from 2pm-4pm

As the lazy, hazy days of summer yield to cool crisp autumn nights, we look ahead to this time of year when we can embrace all that's scary and creepy. Showcaseing Lewiston's rough and tumble frontier past as well as its gloriously ghost-filled present.  Lurking behind Lewiston's cheerful disposition lies an impressive past of creepy events, restless spirits and haunted buildings. The walks are a great way to introduce visitors, school children and even long time residents to Lewiston's rich and exciting history.

The 1 1/2 hour walk will take you through Lewiston's Historic District as the Marble Orchard Players share ghost stories, myths and tales of tragedy, crime, mayhem and murder, the grim and ghastly deeds of Lewiston's best...and worse. Along the way, you'll meet these spirits IN PERSON and hear their tales as you walk back in time ending up in the Village Cemetery.

Rain or shine. No reservations are necessary. And oh yes, be sure to bring a flash light. It gets dark early in the grave yard......

    • $5 kids (under 12)

    Admission:

    • $15/Adults
    • $5 kids (under 12)
    • $10 LCA Members
